Christmas 2025: Filming the iconic Blue Blazer Flaming Cocktail

January 13, 2026

The Blue Blazer dates back to the 19th century and is one of the most visually striking cocktails ever created. For our latest food and drink video project, we set out to capture the drama, precision, and theatre behind this iconic flaming serve.

As specialists in food and drink photography and videography, we love projects that blend craftsmanship with visual storytelling. This shoot was all about atmosphere, movement, and showcasing this incredible cocktail. It was a technical challenge and after a lot of prep and several takes, we managed to capture the flaming pour!

Planning the Shoot

Before any flames were lit, we carefully mapped out:

  • Camera angles to showcase the fiery pour
  • A lighting setup that enhanced the flames without overpowering them
  • A dark, moody backdrop to keep focus on the action
  • The timing and flow of Tom’s movement

Fire behaves differently on camera than it does to the naked eye, so testing was essential. Multiple rehearsals ensured the pour looked fluid, controlled, and cinematic.

Here’s Vinny having a practise early in the day – almost setting the studio on fire!

Lighting a Flaming Cocktail

Lighting fire is a balancing act. Too much light and the flames lose their impact. Too little light and the scene lacks impact and feels unclear.

We used a low-key lighting approach, allowing the natural glow of the flames to become part of the story. Subtle highlights picked up the glassware, the movement of the liquid, keeping the focus firmly on the flame. This approach created a rich, cinematic look that felt dramatic but refined.

Capturing the Moment

The real magic of the Blue Blazer happens in seconds. That fire only lasts a short time, so timing was everything. We filmed multiple takes from different angles, focusing on:

  • The shape of the flames
  • The flow of the liquid
  • The moment the fire meets the glass
  • The final, elegant serve

Selective slow motion helped emphasise the drama without losing the authenticity of the process. Here’s some BTS of the day.

Post-Production & Final Edit

In the edit, we kept things clean and impactful. No heavy effects, just careful colour grading to enhance the warmth of the flames and the depth of the whisky tones.

The final film celebrates:

  • Craft
  • Atmosphere
  • Precision
  • And the beauty of bar technique
